Extreme rainfall events in the Northeastern USA become more frequent with rising temperatures, but their intensity distribution remains stable

چکیده

Abstract Both intensities of individual extreme rainfall events and the frequency such are important for infrastructure planning. We develop a new statistical value model, PGEV which makes it possible to use high quality annual maximum series data instead lesswell checked daily estimate trends in intensity separately. The method is applied maxima from NOAA Atlas 14, Volume 10, dating approximately 1900 2014, showing that majority 333 rain gauge stations Northeastern USA increases as mean temperature increases, but there little evidence distribution events. median corresponds rainfalls becoming 83% more frequent each centigrade degree increase. Naturally, increasing also increase yearly or 10-yearly risks very Three other large areas contiguous USA, Midwest, Southeast, Texas, studied, show similar weaker than those Northeast.

Investigation of the atmospheric circulation anomalies associated with extreme rainfall events over the Coastal West Africa

This study investigates the atmospheric circulation associated with extreme rainfall events over the coastal West Africa. The rainfall data of this study were obtained from the Global Precipitation Climatology Centre (GPCC), spanning from 1981 to 2010. The atmospheric datasets were also obtained from the ERA-Interim reanalysis. The study employed the Z-Index to categorize dry and wet years into...

Active Distribution Networks Restoration after Extreme Events

After extreme events such as floods, thunderstorms, blizzards and hurricanes there will be devastating effects in the distribution networks which may cause a partial or complete blackout. Then, the major concern for the system operators is to restore the maximum critical loads as soon as possible by available generation units.  In order to solve this problem, this paper provides a restoration s...

Biogeographic distribution ranges of marine organisms are shifting due to climate change, specifically rising atmospheric and oceanic temperatures, increasing acidity of the ocean and more frequent and extreme precipitation events leading to greater hyposaline stress in estuaries and coastal waters

INTRODUCTION Biogeographic distribution ranges of marine organisms are shifting due to climate change, specifically rising atmospheric and oceanic temperatures, increasing acidity of the ocean and more frequent and extreme precipitation events leading to greater hyposaline stress in estuaries and coastal waters (Harley et al., 2006; IPCC, 2007; Min et al., 2011; Pall et al., 2011). To assess wh...

Appearance of extreme monsoonal rainfall events and their impact on erosion in the Himalaya

Monsoonal rainfall in the Himalaya dominates erosion and sediment transport through the fluvial system. In addition to the strong seasonal nature of the Indian summer monsoon, striking interannual variations in monsoonal strength characterize longer records. For example, during any given year, rain may penetrate further into the orogen, even though peak rainfall amounts almost always occur at t...
